What is NOAA's National Sea Grant Program?
NOAA's National Sea Grant Program (SG) conducts research on:
- Coastal Communities - Natural Hazards, Urban Coasts, Commerce & Economy;
- Seafood Resources - Aquaculture, Seafood Science & Technologies, Fisheries; and,
- Other Areas - Biotechnology, Ecosystems & Habitat, Aquatic Invasive Species, Digital Ocean, Harmful algal Blooms, Fisheries Extension, Oyster Disease.
Sea Grant provides the ERP the following capabilities:
- Education/Extension - Creating a literate public; transmit information and skills through pamphlets, courses, workshops, lectures and meetings; provide technical reviews of research and policies; stimulate new research to meet perceived needs;
- Engagement - Capability to engage the nation’s top universities in conducting scientific research, education, training, and extension projects designed to foster science-based decisions about the use and conservation of our aquatic resources..
