What is NOAA's Office of Protected Resources?

NOAA's Office of Protected Resources (PR) works to conserve, protect, and recover species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) in conjunction with our Regional Offices, Science Centers, and various partners. ERP supports PR by providing science to assess the causes and consequences of decline of protected species. Current work focuses on Pacific salmon and their habitat and climate relationships; Stellar's Sea lions and their prey interactions with commercially important pollack; and Southern Resident Killer whales (Orcanus orca) and the factors leading to their decline in the Puget Sound region. The information generated by ERP directly impacts how these species are managed by PR.
